Repair of parts and tools by adding material or coating - October 19, 2021 - comar

Nearly 60 participants gathered in Colmar on the repair of parts and tools by coating!

The East-Alsace section of the A3TS organized its autumn technical day in Colmar on the theme of "REPAIR OF PARTS AND TOOLS BY CONTRIBUTION OF MATERIAL OR COATING".

56 participants including 20 students of the BTS Treatments of materials of the Jean Mermoz high school of Saint-Louis (68) had a great pleasure to renew with a technical day in presence.

The morning was devoted to 6 presentations that covered all the techniques of repairing parts. The emphasis was systematically put on specific examples related to wear or abrasion problems.

First, Didier BOISSELIER from IREPA LASER presented laser cladding and the reconstruction of parts by additive manufacturing. Ibra DIOP from WELDING ALLOYS presented the specificities of hardfacing by fusion from cored wires.

The repair and refacing of parts were then addressed from the point of view of spraying: first by thermal spraying with Christophe VERDY from the ICB-PMDM-LERMPS laboratory, then by COLD SPRAY technology with Robin STOCKY from ICAR-CM2T in association with the CRITT of Bar Le Duc.

Then, Nicolas HURAULT from DALIC presented how localized electrolysis can allow, during an intervention on site, to restore the geometry of parts or surface properties.

Aurélien MOUGENOT from WELDING ALLOYS closed the morning's lectures with an overview of the rules and controls applicable to validate repairs, even in the absence of specifications.

The afternoon was devoted to a visit of the WELDING ALLOYS facilities in Holtzwihr, one of the world leaders in wear-resistant hardfacing solutions.

Firstly, the participants were able to discover the manufacturing unit for welding cored wires intended for hardfacing, and then, in a second phase, the welding unit which applies the most suitable anti-wear technical solutions to each customer part.
