    • ICB-PMDM Laboratory

The activity of the ICB-PMDM laboratory of the UTBM is focused on additive processes for the treatment of materials by dry methods as well as on the corresponding industrial applications.

These are highly multidisciplinary scientific and technical fields with applications in all branches of industry.

The technologies used are particularly sophisticated, such as thermal spraying or laser fusion on powder bed (SLM).

The nature of the work undertaken by the laboratory is to develop new technologies allowing the modification of materials, with the aim of endowing parts and surfaces with new properties.

This work is part of a materials engineering approach that takes into account the concept and the fundamental study as well as the industrial range.

    The activity includes:

    - modeling phases, both in terms of the development processes and the characterization of the mechanical or thermal behavior of the material developed,
    - phases of study of the processes of development of deposits: (optimization of operating conditions including with regard to the starting materials (powders) and related operations (surface preparations, particularly by laser, control of heat flows by preheating or cryogenic cooling, finishing by machining or polishing, etc..)
    - characterization phases of deposits and coatings, in particular from the point of view of usage properties (friction, wear, anticorrosion, thermal barriers, etc.).

The objectives are therefore conceptual (modeling, simulation), cognitive (understanding of phenomena), experimental (metrology, instrumentation), operational (processes, validation) and economic (optimization, competitiveness).

The orientation of the research is mainly based on the expectations of the industry, which implies a close collaboration with the industry. However, this research largely develops the fundamental aspects necessary for the mastery of the technological fields addressed. The ICB-PMDM team therefore plays a leading role in bridging the gap generally observed between the products of traditional university research and the expectations of the business world.

The ICB-PMDM team of UTBM has now reached an international reputation in its field.

Research in partnership with industry is thus very widely developed (specificity of a research laboratory of a University of Technology) and it represents more than half of the resources of the team which wishes to involve the industrialists as soon as possible in its approach in order to minimize the problems related to the "transfer" (misunderstandings, inadequacy of the products to the expectations or to the realities of the market).

    • HYDROGENE FC LAB Platform

The FCLAB Research and Support Unit (UAR) was created in January 2020 by the CNRS to pursue and develop its activities in the field of hydrogen energy on the following themes: energy efficiency, sustainability and economic, social and environmental sustainability.

The UAR FCLAB brings together all the research teams working in the field of fuel cell systems in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. It also has a marked national character, with the participation of teams from Paris, Lyon and Lorraine. It is based on 4 research laboratories (FEMTO-ST, AMPERE, LEMTA, ICB and SATIE) and on the EC07 team from Gustave Eiffel University.

Transportation by bus from Mulhouse AR will be offered.

Highlights

Exhibition, expert round tables, job dating, site visits and gala dinner will allow you to find new partners and discover the latest innovations in the field of materials processing. The A3TS Congress and Exhibition is the major event of the materials processing industry in 2023.
