Presentation of the day
The choice of an aluminum alloy for the realization of mechanical components also implies the choice of the most suitable heat or surface treatment. Indeed, a heat treatment can greatly improve the performance of components subjected to different operating conditions such as temperature and/or environment. However, the microstructure, depending on the manufacturing process and the alloys, strongly influences their response to the treatment. It is therefore a whole set of parameters that must be taken into account to optimize the treatment. After a general presentation on aluminum and light alloys, the speakers will present aspects related to structural hardening, hot forming behavior and additive manufacturing. Traditional or more recent heat and surface treatments as well as electrolytic plasma coatings will be presented. The consequences of these treatments on the properties of use will be discussed.
