The A3TS organizes a photo contest, open to all students of the heat treatment and surface treatment training courses under the supervision for 2023 of Frédéric Meunier (A3TS - industrial Oerlikon) and Fabrice Turpin (A3TS - Material Treatment teacher).

1.THEME OF THE COMPETITION

The theme of the contest is defined each year. The proposed photographs must illustrate the imposed theme. 

For the year 2023, the theme chosen is: " The processing of materials seen under the eye of the microscope".

2. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

This competition is open to high school students and students of legal age and minors in training in the heat treatment and surface treatment fields (authorization to participate to be provided by the legal representative if the minor is presenting himself/herself without the supervision of a teacher).

Each individual or group participant presents one and only one photograph.

This photograph must not be retouched (except for the change from color to black and white) or edited using photo software.

The participants declare and guarantee that they are the authors of the proposed photos and, consequently, that they are the exclusive holders of the literary and artistic property rights, namely the right to the name, the right of reproduction and the right of public representation of the said photos. They agree, as such, that these photos may be exhibited and/or published on any communication medium of the A3TS. At each diffusion of the photographs, the name(s) of the author(s) will appear.

They also declare and guarantee that they have obtainedprior written authorization from the persons identifiable in the photos presented or from the owners of the goods represented. The organizer will not be held responsible for the use of these photos.

Participation in the contest implies full acceptance of these rules, with no possibility of complaint regarding the results.

3. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

The competition is open until April 7, 2023.

All entries from the same school must be submitted by a single "referent" teacher for this competition.

For each photograph wishing to compete, two submissions are expected:

  • 1st mailing :

A print (used during the jury's deliberation), on A4 photo paper of the photo and its caption (free positioning and fonts) which must specify the subject, the authors, a notion of scale, the training institution and a title for the photo (an example is given in the Appendix), to the following address:

  • 2nd submission by electronic means by completing the following form:

- The following items must be attached to the electronic form:

The digital photo must be in .jpg format (with a low compression rate) 

- Weight: 5 Mb maximum
- Resolution: 250 dpi
- Format: 10cm width or height

- The document used to print the photographic prints, in .pdf format

- A brief document (maximum one A4 sheet) describing the work done (conditions, preparations, ...).

4. COMPETITION JURY AND SELECTION CRITERIA

A jury of material processing professionals is formed each year to select the photographs. Under the presidency of a member of the A3TS, the jury will evaluate the photographs presented by the candidates.

The photographs will be judged on these aspects:
- Relevance of the subject,
- Originality,
- Artistic interest,
- Technicality in relation to the heat treatment and surface treatment professions,
- Interest in terms of communication concerning the industrial or academic sectors of heat treatment and/or surface treatment.

The organizer reserves the right to invalidate or cancel all or part of an entry if it appears that fraud or malfunctions of any kind have occurred during participation in the contest. It also reserves the right to exclude images that would be contrary to public order or morality.

The decision of the jury is final and will not be justified under any circumstances.

5. PRIZES AND AWARDS

An award will be given to the authors of the selected photograph in the following categories

- Winner of the "1st Prize" competition
- Aesthetics prize
- Technicality prize
- Originality and innovation prize
- Communication prize

The winner's home institution will receive a check or a material award from A3TS in the amount of 1000 to 2000 Euros. In the case of a first prize won by an individual, the reward will be an invitation to the A3TS Congress "all expenses paid", i.e. train travel, hotel and Congress registration. The winner will receive a privileged welcome within the A3TS team.

The awards will be presented in public during the A3TS Congress.

The winners will have their pictures published on the website and in the A3TS magazine.

6. PERSONAL DATA

In accordance with the provisions of article 34 of the 78-17 law called "Loi Informatique et Libertés", the participants are informed that the personal information collected is necessary for their participation in this contest and is subject to computer processing.
