Surface hardening of metal alloys by thin film

On February 7th, a day of conferences on the subject of "Surface hardening of metallic alloys by thin film" was held in the auditorium of the Lycée Diderot in Paris, as an extension of the general assembly of the A3TS. "Surface hardening of metal alloys by thin film including 8 presentations. More than 100 participants attended this day whose purpose was, as the title indicated, to propose communications situating the evolution and the place of thin films for the improvement of the performances of functional organs.

After two introductory conferences on the place of tribology in mechanics by Philippe Kapsa of the Ecole Centrale de Lyon, and the characterization of thin films by nano-indentation by Didier Chicot of the University of Lille, the interventions approached the various technologies available for the improvement of the properties of materials by the realization of thin films. Thierry Czerwiec presented by introducing the subject under its tendency aspects in the world, the technologies associating thermochemical treatments type nitriding with techniques of texturing and/or modelling of the surfaces at the micrometric scale by high energy beams. The wet process via chemical nickel alloy deposits was the subject of a characterization study by Véronique Vitry of the University of Mons and a presentation of the available formulations by Sébastien Méry of Coventya. The most recent and innovative developments in PVD and CVD vacuum evaporation technologies and their performance perspectives were presented by Frédéric Meunier from Sulzer Metco, while his Swiss colleague Malko Gindrot proposed the same approach for the most recent plasma spray PVD and plasma spray CVD techniques. Then Lech Pawlowski from the University of Limoges presented a new technology of "Thin deposits obtained by thermal spraying from solutions and suspensions". Finally, Maurice Ducos, consultant, presented in the form of a technology watch the trends on techniques called "clading" using metal powders to make products and layers by laser fusion and electron beam. Even if it is difficult to talk about thin layers, the organizers had invited Yvan Corre from Bodycote to present a method less well known in the world of mechanics, that of ion implantation.
