Thermal spraying days, innovations in materials and processes

A3TS organizes the 8th edition of the Thermal Projection Days. This event, which takes place every two years in Pau, will be held on December 6 and 7, 2023 at the Palais Beaumont. During these 2 days, industrialists and researchers present the latest innovations and share their feedback on thermal spraying.

Intelligent treatment for long-term durability. The functionalization of materials, designed to give them properties of use (mechanical and/or tribological), and the maintenance of these specificities over time - under demanding conditions of use - require the implementation of surface treatments. These are based on a wide range of technologies, such as thermal spraying, which offers coatings with diverse characteristics and thicknesses ranging from a few microns to several millimeters.

This 8th edition of Thermal Projection Days gives researchers and industrialists involved in the development and industrial application of these technologies the opportunity to take stock of recent innovations, with a focus on industrial applications.

At this event, 4 major themes such asIndustry 4.0, PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) and cold spray will be addressed by aerospace majors Airbus and Safran, as well as Fanuc and Fugama, leading players in robotization.

Cold spray has finally come of age!

While researchers from theUniversity of Mons will present an alternative to thermal spraying for obtaining a homogeneous deposit when the bore is too small, those from Mines Paris will detail the various current and future research projects on cold spray, undertaken in collaboration with manufacturers.

Cold spray, in other words the deposition of a material on a substrate at very high speed and low temperature, is a rapidly expanding process. For several years now, it has been growing exponentially in the industrial sector as a means of repairing damaged parts.

But cold spray has yet to reveal its full potential, even though there are already numerous applications, such as the additive repair of brake disc coatings or the coating of cookware for induction heating. Now finally mature, this process is set to win over more and more manufacturers, thanks to its ease of use and, above all, its low cost, which means productivity gains and energy savings.
