CS10 - Physical PVD and CVD coatings for mechanical applications

Inter-company and intra-company courses

100% satisfaction

Educational objectives

  1. Identification and understanding of the different thin film deposition processes by PVD and CVD technologies, key process parameters and associated characterizations

  2. Tribology and examples of concrete mechanical applications

PROGRAM

1. Day 1

  • Fundamentals of vacuum techniques

  • Fundamentals of low pressure plasmas

  • PVD and CVD techniques for mechanical parts (Ion Plating, Cathodic sputtering, Arc, Electron gun, Plasma assisted CVD...)

  • Adjacent pre- and post-deposition processes (cleaning, degassing, pre- and post-deposition surface finishing, etc.); production environments and required cleanliness levels

  • Characterization means adapted to industrial thin films (thickness, surface state, nano hardness, adhesion...)

  • Defectology: detection & classification of defects

  • Tribology: main associated mechanisms

2. Day 2

  • Practical application through the realization of PVD/CVD deposition within CITRA; Loading, control of the reactor with a technician tutor for identification and understanding of the different typical steps (vacuum, degassing, etching, heating, deposition, ...); basic characterization thickness, adhesion

  • Practice of basic characterization of layers (thickness, adhesion, tribology...)

  • Tribology: theoretical notion of the main mechanisms associated with thin films

  • Summary: The 10 golden rules for PVD and CVD deposition
