Understand the industrial process of steel manufacturing and the quality risks on the product or on the downstream process
Acquire the basic technical knowledge to audit a steel manufacturer, deal with raw material disputes and better define its specifications
To be able to identify the nature of the defects on products and their origins (defects of elaboration or shaping)
Acquire the basic notions of industrial non-destructive testing and their detection limits
PROGRAM
1. Elaboration of steels (refining, degassing, continuous casting)
Defectology applied to steel mills: solidification structures, inclusionary cleanliness, cracks and thermomechanical stresses, segregation
2. Rolling and thermomechanical rolling - Defectology applied to the rolling mill
3. Characterization of defects by metallographic examination
4. Principle and limits of Non Destructive Testing
