PROGRAM

1. Elements of physical metallurgy

  • Structure of the material

  • The states of matter, notions of phases

  • The metallic state, crystal structures, primary and secondary solid solutions, precipitates

  • Relationship between microstructure and material properties, influence of structural defects

  • Phase equilibrium diagrams, description, application to solidification of alloys and solid state transformations

2. The steels

  • iron-carbon diagram, effect of the main alloying elements, unalloyed steels, alloyed steels, stainless steels

3. Aluminum

  • Aluminium hardening methods, alloy families and applications

4. Copper alloys

  • Alloy families and applications

5. Titanium alloys

  • Hardening methods for titanium alloys, alloy families and applications
