Preparation and finishing of surfaces in material treatment: implementation and characterization

Thursday, October 21, 2021 - Maison des Chercheurs of the Université Catholique de LILLE

After these long months of "remote" exchanges, it was with great pleasure that we found a bit of conviviality during the day of October 21 organized by the France North Belgium section on the theme of surface preparations and finishes in materials processing.

This event gathered about thirty participants in the Researchers' House of the Catholic University of Lille. The morning speakers presented different technological solutions for leaching / cleaning / decontamination, allowing to avoid problems in service but also and especially during subsequent surface treatments.

The afternoon was devoted more to the problem of roughness. On the one hand, the necessity of a statistical analysis of the multiple standardized parameters of its measurement was demonstrated, which allows to identify the significant and discriminating parameter to qualify such or such property noted of the surface.

Then, the use of different surface finishes was illustrated in the context of cylinders used in various industrial equipment. Finally, technological solutions to produce controlled surface finishes were presented.

We hope to see as much enthusiasm around the theme of our next day, which will take place in May 2022 and will be dedicated to the evolution of quenching fluids.
