M43 - Residual stresses: influence on the life and safety of your parts

Optimize manufacturing processes to control residual stresses, a major parameter for the life and reliability of safety parts.

Inter-company course

Educational objectives

1. Examine in detail the different phases of a manufacturing process

2. Identify the types of residual stresses associated with these different phases

3. Choose the most appropriate evaluation method to quantify them

4. Evaluate the impact of these constraints on serviceability

5. Integrate these residual constraints into the design

PROGRAM

1. General

  • Principle of residual stress generation, relationship between residual stresses and usage properties (fatigue, corrosion, toughness, etc.)

2. Evaluation method

  • Mechanical methods, incremental drilling, ultrasound, X-ray diffraction analysis

3. Relationship between processes and residual stresses

  • Mechanical processes, thermal processes, thermochemical processes, machining, combined treatments, welding

4. Consideration of residual stresses in design

  • Fatigue, fracture (toughness), contact fatigue

5. Integrated approach to residual stress in manufacturing

  • Consideration in fatigue design, testimony of an industrialist
