CT09 - Choosing steel for mechanical engineering, understanding and performing heat treatments
Inter-company and intra-company courses
New
Educational objectives
Apply metallurgical knowledge to understand and select the grade and industrial process for manufacturing mechanical parts from special steels:
Choosing the right grade and heat treatments for manufacturing a mechanical part by forging and machining.
Define the heat treatments to be applied to ensure the mechanical performance of the part during service.
Understand the theoretical principles, practical applications, and risks of these heat treatments.
PROGRAM
Basic reminder:
atoms, molecules, solutions, and precipitates
crystallography and their defects
mechanical properties
designation of steel grades
Influence of alloying elements, economic impact
Hardenable steels using TRC, TTT, and Jominy curves
Heat treatments for shaping: normalizing, globular annealing, isothermal annealing, etc.
Functional treatments: hardening, carburizing, nitriding, induction treatment, etc.
Focus on undesirable part deformation, machinability, grain size, decarburization
