Principle:

Heat treatments are carried out at high temperatures at which the treated alloy is likely to be altered (oxidation, decarburization, evaporation of certain constituents), the treatment medium must be such that it does not alter the treated material. Moreover, the temperature maintenance can be the occasion to modify the chemical composition of the alloy with a reactive medium.
