Tribology & Surface Treatment Days - J2TS
A3TS is pleased to invite you to the 4th edition 2025 of the J2TS "Tribology and Surface Treatment" days in Toulouse on November 19 and 20. This conference will provide a snapshot of the Tribology Commission's main advances, as well as feedback from its various members, covering a broad spectrum of the industry.
In addition to conferences, these days will offer visits to laboratories and/or industrial sites in the fields of tribology and surface engineering at nearby university/industrial sites.
After being twinned with the surface manufacturing conference in Saint Etienne in 2020, this year's J2TS will be held in parallel with the dry process coating conference, with joint plenary sessions reviewing the latest innovations in these coatings, which are used in a wide range of tribological applications.
Surface treatments play an essential role in the functionalization of mechanical components, particularly when it comes to controlling friction and wear problems.
The A3TS Tribology Commission works on the organ/tribological function/surface treatment triptych, and focuses on :
Solve problems related to tribological characterization of materials and standards and tests characterizing friction and wear,
Develop a matrix of applied solutions to meet these functionalities,
Propose simplified tests to monitor drift in the tribological performance of coatings during production, and more representative tests for identified key components or stations.
These objectives, simple to express on paper, are in fact much more difficult to achieve due to the complexity of tribological problems on the one hand, and the very wide range of surface treatment processes on the other. Some of the existing processes need to be gradually replaced. But when moving from one family of processes to another, the mechanical response and wear pattern may vary, which means that we need to think about the evaluation method and criteria.
In this context, the arrival of artificial intelligence could make a significant contribution, either through its ability to collect data, or through its capacity to suggest matches.
