CT05 - Deformations during heat treatment
Inter-company and intra-company courses
New
Educational objectives
Understand the origins of deformations induced by heat treatments in order to better control changes in shape and size during the implementation of these treatments
Learn how to reduce the manufacturing costs of a mechanical part undergoing a heat treatment by controlling the distortions in the manufacturing process
PROGRAM
1. Reminder on materials
Crystallographic structure
Physical properties (tensile strength, creep, buckling ...)
2. Heat treatment imposes volume changes
Steel structures (structural and tool steels)
Case of hardening in the mass according to the grades
Case of surface treatments: hardening after surface heating, carburizing, nitriding
3. Stresses at the origin of the deformations
Thermal constraints
Thermal gradient
Mechanical stresses during heating: weight, friction, residual stresses
Mechanical stresses during cooling
Change of volume and creation of constraints
Stress relaxation
Influence of the homogeneity of the material and its history
Design: drafting, fabrication, mechanical design, metallurgical design, heat treatment design
