CS06 - Which surface treatment, for which functional use?

Inter-company and intra-company courses

New

Educational objectives

  1. Introduce the concept of functional stress and put into perspective whether surface treatments can prevent degradation due to this stress

  2. Identify solutions to master a functional environment by giving a brief definition

  3. To present the most commonly used surface treatments to meet single or multiple functional constraints on steel and aluminum alloys

  4. Classify surface treatments according to their performance for a given functional purpose (single or multiple)

PROGRAM

1. The cases treated in this training (on steels and on Aluminium alloys) are :

  • Atmospheric corrosion resistance

  • Ability to rub

  • Improved fatigue resistance

  • Prevention of fretting (contact fatigue)

  • Abrasive and erosive wear resistance

  • Conductivity / electrical insulation

  • Conductivity / thermal insulation

  • Color appearance

  • Ability to receive paint

  • Ability to hold a tight functional rating

  • Ability to maintain fine roughness

  • Friction and corrosion resistance

  • Fatigue and corrosion resistance

  • Wear and tear and corrosion resistance

  • Electrical and thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance

  • Appearance / color and corrosion resistance

  • Ability to be partially painted and corrosion resistance
