A3TS/VOM Study Day: Surface Treatments in Aeronautics

Innovations and technologies in surface treatments for aerospace: A cross-border study day

On September 19, A3TS, in partnership with the Belgian working group Promosurf/VOM, organized a study day in Molsheim (67) on innovations and technologies in surface treatment for the aerospace industry. Thanks to a virtual broadcast, the event brought together 15 participants from France and around 30 from Belgium, to discuss the latest technological developments and current research projects.

The day was marked by six conferences covering the following topics:

  • Development of anti-contamination solutions to preserve laminar flow on the leading edges of aircraft wings (CLEANSKY STELLAR project), presented by D. Ghysselinckx of Sonaca and Materia Nova researchers Anne-Laure Dechief, Marie-Eve Druart and Mireille Poelman.

  • The incorporation of particles in layers obtained by electrolytic plasma oxidation, a promising innovation for durable coatings, presented by Thierry Czerwiec of the Institut Jean Lamour.

  • New HVAF coatings in Tungsten Carbide: a sustainable alternative to chrome, by Stefan Verreyken (Aim3lead) and Philippe Legros (OCAS).

  • Development of a hard chromium plating process using trivalent chromium: a French initiative presented by Lucas Baissac of IRT M2P.

  • Electrostatic coating for high-precision blade forging (WINGS project), by Karl Sofinowski of the CRM Group.

  • Completion of metal parts produced by additive manufacturing: a crucial issue for the deployment of the industrial sector, explained by Joffrey Tardelli from IRT M2P.

The meeting highlighted the joint efforts of France and Belgium in the development of cutting-edge technologies.

The day ended with a visit to the IRT M2P facilities in Duppigheim on the French side, and Sonaca on the Belgian side, offering participants an immersion in research and development infrastructures.
