On March 19, 30 people gathered at the CRITT Matériaux Innovation in Charleville-Mézières to discuss how to properly perform mechanical characterization of materials.

Throughout the various presentations, key considerations were raised regarding both the tests to be conducted and the conclusions to be drawn. This laid the groundwork for understanding the mechanical properties of materials. Regarding solid materials, a wide range of tests was presented: tensile tests, indentation tests, different approaches to resilience and toughness, as well as the small punch test. The characterization of coated materials was addressed through indentation and scratch tests, as well as fatigue testing. Finally, the complexity of tribology and wear testing, which involves various materials and other environmental parameters, was highlighted. The day concluded with a very interesting tour of CRITT Matériaux Innovation.
