Air liquide wins Innovation Award for ECO-CHILLER

A highlight of the event was the award of the Innovation Trophy to Air Liquide for their In-Plant Thermal Energy Recovery system.

The award-winning invention is a standardized system consisting of an exchanger for cooling an industrial fluid (usually water used to cool a plant such as a furnace), which can then be reintroduced into the cooling circuit once cooled.

The original feature of the ECO CHILLER system is that it uses an industrial gas supplied in liquid phase as a cooling agent (most often nitrogen, temperature - 196°C in storage), which is vaporized and then reheated to ambient temperature before being injected into furnaces and industrial plants. The general rule is that this nitrogen is vaporized and reheated using ambient air, which is cooled in the vicinity of the storage facility, but this cooling is not exploited. On the contrary, the frequent formation of ice on the exchanger can disrupt operation by slowing down exchange.

The ECO CHILLER makes it possible to use this cold source (cryogenic liquid nitrogen) and saves the electrical energy of a chiller unit generally used to cool hot water in cooling circuits.

This system is particularly well suited to metal heat treatment plants operating high-temperature industrial furnaces (800°C and over).

The other nominees for the Innovation Award were :

KEYENCE for laser elemental analysis EA-300. This brand-new analysis module completes the VHX series of digital microscopes. Based on the principle of laser-induced plasma spectroscopy (LIBS technology), the EA-300 identifies the chemical composition of a target in just a few seconds. Unlike conventional techniques, no preparation, destruction, metallization or even high vacuum is required. An AI-assisted database can also be used to suggest the name of the most likely substance or alloy, making the analysis accessible to all.

NGL Group for AQUA4D® technology: curative and preventive action for hydraulic systems and equipment. AQUA4D® technology solves the most recurrent problems in water pipes, washing lines and other hydraulic systems: limescale, corrosion and biofilm - all without chemicals or costly maintenance, thanks to a patented process.

Thank you to all candidates for their participation!

The "quick skull", 1st prize in the A3TS Photo Competition

The photo competition organized as part of the Congress was also a success, with 19 entries received. The 1st Jury Prize was awarded to Matis Boissier from the Lycée Gaspard Monge in Chambéry for his photo "Tête de mort rapide", highlighting his artistic talent and unique vision.

The other prizes awarded are :

Aesthetic award for "Ville futuriste vue du ciel", Imene BECHTOULA, Lycée Jean Mermoz de Saint-Louis
Technical award for "Le trou noir", Erwann LENOIR , Lycée Gaspard Monge de Chambéry
Originality and innovation award for "Croissance des bulles d'hydrogène dans le dépôt de nickel", Lycée Théophile Roussel, Saint Chely d'Apcher
Communication prize for "La cosmopolite Rock n'Roll", awarded to second-year Heat Treatment students at Lycée Franklin Roosevelt, Reims.

Gala evening at the Cité du Train

The event concluded in style with a gala evening in the enchanting setting of the Cité du Train - Patrimoine SNCF. This emblematic venue offered an exceptional setting for participants to enjoy a moment of conviviality and informal exchanges. Guests enjoyed a private tour of the Museum, followed by an outdoor cocktail reception and dinner served amidst exceptional locomotives and carriages.

On this occasion, Marie Claude Milon was awarded the title of Honorary Member of the A3TS in recognition of her almost 40 years of dedication to the association and her exceptional contribution to its development.

Throughout her career, Marie Claude Milon has been a key figure at A3TS, contributing her expertise and unwavering commitment to the association, leaving an indelible mark at every step along the way.

On the same evening, Alain Viola was also awarded the title of Honorary President of A3TS. This distinction testifies to his remarkable involvement in the association's development, in particular for his preponderant role in the integration of surface treatment within the association.

As A3TS President in 2007 and 2008, Alain Viola's innovative ideas helped transform the A3TS into a dynamic and inclusive organization, capable of meeting the evolving needs of the heat and surface treatment industry. His unwavering commitment to technical excellence and innovation has been a source of inspiration to many in the industry.
